Detailed tutorial how to record your voice - vocal starts at time 3:25 min. More tutorials on www.domacistudio.cz
Welcome! In this video I will show you how you can record voice - vocal in Cubase (Cubase Artist 6.5). The basic procedure is the same for all versions of the program.
I also used the studio microphone connected via a sound card with a preamp.
Examples of this equipment can be found on my website www.domacistudio.cz
You can also find here more tutorials about easy home recording...
Now you can see tracks created in Cubase: guitar, piano, organ and vocal 2x (mono + copied to stereo track ). Furthermore, you can see a group track for vocals, so I can apply effects on both vocal tracks at once.
How I created the tracks of these musical instruments i will show in other tutorials. Now i will show you how i created vocal track.
Now these two tracks removed and I'll show you how I created ...
After connecting and setting the microphone and sound card I can start recording my voice - vocal. This setting is also described in a video which you can find on my website..
Let's start recording! First I add another audio track (mono) to these audio and midi tracks.
Now you can see a new track. I can change track color to red - i like for vocal, i can also change track name to Vocal - mono.
Now I will apply for this track presets for recording vocals.
You can see the effect VST Dynamics (compressor), which will, together with other effects help when recording.
I'll add more effects (reverb) - Roomworks SE (included Cubase) and RealVerb-Pro an effect from Universal Audio.
Now I will show how my voice sounds with effects and hear for yourself what a difference.
Now hear my voice with effects, possibly setting is a bit drastic but at least the difference is clearly audible.
Because I know that I am not a professional singer, and I will not be singing right the first time, I record a section multiple times in a loop.
Set the locators to the part that will be recorded, turn on the loop recording button
Press F2 (Transport panel) and set up here to start recording in the section.
Cubase will record this segment over and over again.
Normally I would press monitor button of track to be heard in the headphones with the effects, but the program to capture screen which I create this tutorial does not support direct sound monitoring of my sound card - my singing could be worse than normaly :D
I record some loops and choose the one which I think sounds good.
Press PLAY and Cubase will automatically record the part ...
Enaugh for now...
Now I can listen to what I recorded, press this button to display the recorded loops (Takes)
Click the right mouse button and select icon of the hand from menu - I can mute and unmute loops.
Not perfect i know, but i told you reason :DD
Unsuccessful and unnecessary loops i can remove.
Also I can choose scissors icon from menu to split loops and choose individual parts of loops.
If I'm not satisfied I can of course continue to record and create another loops (Takes).
This way I recorded vocals for whole a song.
Now I remove all muted - unnecessary parts.
Hold Ctrl and drag the rest of the loops into a single track. Ctrl ensure that parts remain locked in the same time slot.
Finaly all unnecessary parts will be removed and all used parts will be in 1 track.
Listen to the result.
At the beginning of the tutorial, you could see that here I have 2 tracks of vocals - the second track is a copy that is inserted into a stereo track (stereo effect).
I've added more effects, editing, mix ... These further adjustments are and will be described in detail in my other tutorials.
Visit: www.domacistudio.cz and you'll see that almost everyone can create their own music at home.
Please excuse my mistakes in English, thank you for watching and see you in another tutorial if you want :D
